What is heterogeneous vinyl flooring?

Heterogeneous vinyl flooring is used in commercial and residential buildings. It is also used in healthcare institutions, office facilities and multi-family dwellings. You can get heterogeneous flooring in thickness from 1.1 to 3.8 mm thickness. Several patterns are also available in this type of flooring material.

Basically, there are two types of heterogeneous flooring. The first type, a clear wear layer sits on the top of a separate backing layer. This protects the decor layer below it. In the second type, the wear and decor layers are one and with a separate backing layer.

How long heterogeneous vinyl flooring will remain in a good condition depends on the amount of floor traffic and the frequency of care and maintenance. The level of maintenance also depends on the actual use of the flooring and the desired appearance.

If you are installing this flooring in your office or home, it is recommended to keep heavy furniture and equipment off the floor for at least 72 hours after the installation. This time will allow the adhesive to set properly. You can use furniture rests, casters or wheels with suitable widths to prevent damage caused by wheeled vehicles and castered furniture. For successful installation of heterogeneous flooring, moisture in sub-floors should be looked at. For cleaning, it is recommended to use low VOC cleaning materials.

Homogeneous vinyl flooring is also used in commercial buildings. This vinyl floor covering is made of a single layer that offers depth and vibrancy of the color. It is also an affordable option when compared to other flooring materials and is also stain resistant. This is one of the main reasons why heavy traffic areas have homogeneous or heterogeneous flooring. To make the flooring last longer, it is important to clean it on a regular basis.
